Kreuz Market, rooted in Lockhart, Texas, boasts a rich history that spans over a century. Established in 1875 by Jesse Swearingen as the first meat market in Lockhart, it was later acquired by Charles Kreuz Sr. in 1900. The market has since seen ownership transitions within the Kreuz family and their associates. In 1999, after residing at its original location for 99 years, Kreuz Market moved to 619 N. Colorado Street, with the original hot coals being transported to the new pits. The legacy continued with Rick Schmidt, a 4th generation owner, who was a prominent figure in Lockhart’s barbecue scene. Today, Kreuz Market stands as a testament to family tradition, prized coals, and legendary smoke.
